JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Secretary of State's Office has alerted county clerks to require an undetermined number of people to provide proof of citizenship before allowing them to vote. The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports the state alerted the Teton County Clerk's Office to 59 people early this year.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The 2016 wildfire season has wrapped up in much of the Western U.S., with measurable snowfall has dusted parts of the Rockies and Northwest. Jessica Gardetto of the National Interagency Fire Center says wildfires are still active only in the Southwest, especially Southern California. She says the West saw a below-average fire season overall, with about 7,500 square miles burned.
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Scientists say oil and gas development in the Western U.S. could continue to cause sage grouse numbers to decline despite limits on drilling meant to protect the struggling bird species. Researchers from the U.S. Geological Survey and Colorado State University examined the effects of drilling on greater sage grouse over a 25-year period. They found populations of the chicken-sized bird dropped 14 percent annually in areas of Wyoming with at least 10 oil or gas wells per square mile.
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The University of Wyoming granted a record 2,860 degrees in the past academic year. The number is 60 more than the previous record set in the 2011-12 academic year and includes an all-time high of 2,159 bachelor's degrees.
