FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Fresno State linebacker Brandon Hughes has been declared ineligible for the rest of the season because of a NCAA policy violation.

The school announced the decision before its home game Friday night against San Diego State, saying it wouldn't comment further.

Hughes, a senior from Moorpark, played in the Bulldogs' first six games — making five starts — and had 21 tackles and four tackles for losses. He played 41 career games.

The school said Hughes will remain on the team as a practice player.
