RAWLINS, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Legislature's Task Force on State Penal Facilities has recommended that the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins should by repaired due to structural problems.
The Rawlins Daily Times reports (http://bit.ly/2cX3eUc) that the aging prison is facing issues including shifting soils under one housing unit that have caused walls to crack.
Due to the pressing need, the task force has also recommended that the governor issue immediate funds to begin repairs ahead of a legislative decision.
The repair project is estimated to cost at least $87.2 million.
The task force had considered moving the prison entirely, but lawmakers say they believe they can fix the prison in its current location.
