KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It’s the fifth annual General RV trip for Alex Kirry and me.
Back in 2012, we went to Notre Dame, where BYU was a Riley Nelson-to-Cody Hoffman pass away from beating the eventual runner-up to the national championship.
The highlight of the roadtrip was the punt, pass and kick competition at Memorial Stadium, home of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
In 2013, we went on the road to Madison, Wisconsin. BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall lost to former Utah State head coach Gary Andersen, 27-17 in Badgerland during Bucky's jump-around.
The highlight of the trip: visiting Mt. Rushmore and meeting the most interesting Junior Ranger.
In 2014 — you know how they say everything is bigger in Texas? They’re right. BYU went into Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium and put a beat-down on the longhorns as Taysom Hill’s Leap of Faith vaulted the Cougars into national prominence.
The highlight of that trip was staying at the home of a BYU super family in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In year four, 2015, the General RV trip took us to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The Cardiac Cougars — coming off two last-minute wins against Nebraska and Boise State — were ranked No. 19 in the country and they were taking on No. 10 UCLA . BYU lost in a heartbreaker 24-23.
The highlight of the trip was Alex’s first time at Disneyland, where we held a BYU pep rally.
In our fifth year, 2016, we head to East Lansing, Michigan as BYU gets ready to take on the Spartans. Sparty was ranked No. 8 in the nation just a couple of weeks into the season, but back-to-back losses to Wisconsin and Indiana has Michigan State reeling.
TBD the highlight of the trip, but follow Alex Kirry (@AlexKirryKSL) and myself (@DaveNoriega) as we make our epic journey across the country, and click on the video at the top of the page for the most recent highlights (warning: fireworks are not sold separately).
