ST. LOUIS — A 102-year-old woman was arrested at a rest home last week, and she couldn’t have been happier about it.

When officers showed up at the Five Star Senior Center in St. Louis, Edie Simms was thrilled. That’s because she’s never been escorted into a police car in handcuffs, but she’s always wanted to be, KSDK News reported.

That’s right, thanks to St. Louis Metropolitan police, Simms was able to check “getting arrested” off her bucket list.

Simms had arrived at the rest home where she frequently volunteers and provides homemade gifts for residents, when an officer approached her, loaded her into his cruiser and took her for a ride, according to KSDK.

Simms is well-known in St. Louis for her service — particularly at Five Star — and city officials wanted to find a way to say thanks. An unusual thank you, to be sure, but one that Simms will never forget.

For her part, Simms told KSDK she loves having the opportunity to help others find joy.

“Keep going, don’t ever stop whatever it is you’re doing and spend some time doing community service,” Simms told reporters. “Sometimes the person you reach out and touch is the only person that they will talk to in a day.”

After her short stint as a “criminal,” Simms returned to the rest home for a wild game of Bingo.
