FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Two officers were wounded and a suspect was killed during a suicide investigation in Fort Worth, Texas. Police say responding officers who found a gunshot victim were told a witness was in a backyard shed and were shot when they opened the shed door. Officials say police returned fire and there was a standoff for a time. The wounded officers are expected to recover.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The streets of West Philadelphia were the scene of a wild chase and shootout that left a suspect dead and six people wounded, including two officers. Two civilians are in critical condition. Police say the incident began when a man walked up to an officer inside here vehicle and opened fire.
DENVER (AP) — No injuries have been reported in Denver where reports of gunfire and a man with a weapon prompted a lockdown of a hospital complex. Police lifted the lockdown after a search of buildings and grounds. Authorities say they're still looking for a man who was seen with a gun earlier in the day.
MIAMI (AP) — A newly released transcript reveals that accused al-Qaida bomb-maker Ghassan Abdallah al-Sharbi who went to college in Arizona, says a religious figure in Saudi Arabia used the term "your highness" during a telephone conversation just before urging al-Sharbi to return to the U.S. and take part in a plot that would involve learning to fly a plane. He told military officials at the U.S. base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, that he believed an unnamed member of the Saudi royal family was part of the pre-9/11 effort to recruit him.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory's office says Charlotte must act to repeal a pro-LGBT law as a precondition of any legislative action on a widely criticized state law imposing limits on non-discrimination protection. The state law has had financial repercussions on such as cancelations of events, including NCAA and Atlantic Coast Conference tournament games. Critics of the law say the governor's assertion is just a "cheap trick."
