CHICAGO (AP) — The wife of former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has been transferred from a federal prison camp to a halfway house where she will complete the remainder of a yearlong sentence for filing false income tax returns.
Former Chicago city councilwoman Sandi Jackson was moved Tuesday from the Federal Prison Camp at Alderson, West Virginia, to what's known as a residential re-entry center.
U.S. Bureau of Prisons spokesman Justin Long says that because of privacy reasons the location of the center would not be disclosed. He said Jackson will remain under Bureau of Prisons jurisdiction until her release on Oct. 18.
Jackson's husband spent 2 ½ years in prison for fraud. Both their convictions were tied to $750,000 in illegal spending of campaign money on items from furs to vacations.
