Winfrey comes out on top in culture poll

LOS ANGELES, Aug 9, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Oprah Winfrey, "The View" and Paul Newman came out on top in a new U.S. pop culture survey conducted by parade.com.

Winfrey is the hostess 43 percent of those surveyed want to receive a party invitation from. President George W. Bush came in a distant second with 15 percent, followed by Donald Trump with 9 percent and Martha Stewart with 7 percent.

The survey showed 30 percent were curious what was behind the feud on "The View," while 23 percent said they cared about the Catholic Church's complaints about "The Da Vinci Code" -- the best-selling book that was made into a box-office hit starring Tom Hanks.

Regarding bizarre baby names, Suri Cruise -- the new child of actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes -- got top billing with 29 percent of the votes. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's new arrival, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, was a close second with 27 percent.

Twenty-two percent of those surveyed said they were disappointed by the break-up of Hollywood couple Hillary Swank and Chad Lowe, while 18 percent said they felt bad about the divorce between singers Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey.

The top sex symbols of all time were Paul Newman (21 percent) and Marilyn Monroe (40 percent). Despite his wealth, Donald Trump had only 2 percent sex appeal and Bush only rated 5 percent.
