CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison after entering an Alford plea on child abuse charges.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/2bF9MSd ) that 26-year-old Isaac Hernandez of Nampa was charged with three counts of injury to a child. An Alford plea means the defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence for a jury to convict him.

Hernandez' 3-month-old son died after the abuse, but an autopsy couldn't determine a cause of death. The baby had 26 rib fractures, four fractures in his legs, mouth and lip injuries and significant bruising.

Hernandez says other people hurt the boy but that he feels responsible for not stopping it.

The baby's mother was in state prison when she had the baby and when he was injured.
