NEW YORK (AP) — A driverless van hit two pedestrians, killing one of them, before crashing into a food cart in New York City.
It happened Wednesday afternoon in Queens.
Police say the driver of the van thought he had put it in park. They say he had just gotten out of the vehicle, when it rolled backward through an intersection and up onto a curb.
It hit an 80-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man, before striking a food cart.
The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police have not released her name, pending notification of her family. The man is hospitalized in stable condition.
The driver of the van remained at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
