This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Business isn't always cut and dried. In fact, one business just sticks to the cutting. Mike Greene of Greene Concrete Cutting approached Zions Bank in the early 1990s to finance an obscure business, specializing in, well, cutting concrete.

Most people didn't even know that concrete could be cut, let alone an entire business devoted to it. But Mike was convincing, and soon he had the resources to get the company's blades turning with the purchase of special trucks and the latest cutting and sawing equipment.

Mike and his crew started out cutting curbs for driveways and openings in concrete walls for homeowners looking to add doors and windows to their homes. He then expanded his services to include highway reconstruction and city beautification projects all over the state. Over the years as Utah has developed, Greene Concrete Cutting has grown into one of the leading concrete cutting firms in the area.

Today, the company employs over seventy workers and has added additional services for its customers. Along with cutting concrete, the company now has a demolition division that will tear out a driveway, demolish a building and everything in between. Two years ago Greene Concrete Cutting added a division that specializes in concrete rehabilitation and replacement. Mike and his crew can overlay cracked concrete or replace it with stamped or stained concrete. Another service Mike added is radon testing and mitigation. Radon is the earth's only naturally produced radioactive gas and causes an estimated 14,000 lung cancer deaths each year.

From individual homeowners to general contractors to large construction companies, many entities find a need to call businesses such as Greene Concrete Cutting.

The company is headquartered in Woods Cross, Utah, and Mike Greene is confident that his business will always literally and figuratively be on the cutting edge.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
