SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Polygamous sect members accused of food stamp fraud may testify at an upcoming hearing to try and persuade a judge they were following religiously dictated communal living practices and not breaking the law. U.S. District Judge Ted Stewart said Tuesday he'll allow attorneys to decide whether their clients take the stand at the Oct. 3-4 hearing or just submit statements.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Provo woman who didn't know she was pregnant until the day she gave birth is preparing to go home with a healthy baby girl. KSL-TV reports that Brooke and Calvin Williams welcomed the birth of their child Sunday at Utah Valley Hospital.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Criminal charges have been dismissed against a former small-town police chief accused of mishandling a domestic violence complaint against his brother. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Adam Howard Jones had been charged with witness tampering and official misconduct in connection with the 2011 incident.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Some of Utah's top Republicans made the case Tuesday for a Donald Trump presidency. But notable GOP officials _ including Gov. Gary Herbert _ were conspicuously absent from the show of support. The Utah Republican Party put out a statement Tuesday supporting Trump and touting the billionaire's positions on issues such as energy drilling and health care.
