STUART, Fla. (AP) — The Latest on a man smashing into a house in the same county where a couple was killed at random (all times local):

3:10 p.m.

A Florida sheriff says a 19-year-old man who attacked a woman and her adult son after smashing through the front window said that he was on the powerful street drug flakka.

Martin County Sheriff William Snyder said Monday that Niko Gallo told the victim he had taken flakka and LSD before the Sunday morning attack. He said Gallo will face felony burglary and assault charges once he is released from the hospital.

Snyder said Gallo jumped through the plate-glass window and grabbed the woman. She broke away and screamed for her adult son.

The sheriff says the son fought the man while his mother hit Gallo on the head repeatedly with an aluminum baseball bat.

Deputies handcuffed Gallo and bound his feet because he was kicking them.

The attack happened in the same county where authorities say 19-year-old Austin Harrouff attacked a couple Aug. 15, killing them and biting the man's face.

The Martin County public defender's office has not been assigned the case and it could not be determined if Gallo has an attorney.
