This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Bateman Pharmacy has been a fixture in St. George for well over 40 years. The Bateman family started the store and established a reputation for fairness, quality and competitive pricing.

Evan Stapley graduated from pharmacy school in 1976 and became an employee of Bateman Pharmacy. Three years later he was given the opportunity to purchase the company, and 26 years later he is now serving the third generation of St. George natives who have come to rely on Bateman Pharmacy.

Evan's wife Faith now does a great deal of the buying for the many gift items that are featured. The store has many unique, different figures and figurines. She mentioned specifically the popularity of the "Precious Moments" and "Pretty as a Picture" lines that have a large and loyal following.

The store stocks all of the standard over-the-counter items you would expect to find in a drugstore. I also noticed a large display of greeting cards of all kinds and a wide selection of candy and confections.

I asked Faith how the company has survived these many years. There are so many giant national chains and huge box stores with pharmacies and gift items and other products that the Stapley's sell. Her response was quick and emphatic. "We know and really care about our customers," she said. "We give free delivery and honor most insurance company cards. Our location near St. George Boulevard provides quick, easy storefront parking and no one can beat our service and our desire to truly help our customers."

Bateman Pharmacy is an independent pharmacy with a real hometown atmosphere. They service and provide product to retirement homes and care centers in the area and have gained a strong reputation for genuine concern for the health of the citizens of Washington County.

My time in the store reinforced Faith's contention that Bateman's is a comfortable, pleasant buying atmosphere. I'm sure they will be around for another 40 years.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred ball. I'm speaking on business.
