BOSTON (AP) — Police have arrested an 18-year-old Massachusetts man after he was allegedly found sleeping with a loaded gun tucked under his arm in the playground area of a Boston elementary school.

Rodney Cooper was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm on school property and several other weapons offenses.

Officers were dispatched to Oliver Wendell Holmes Elementary School just before 6 a.m. following reports of an unconscious man who appeared to have a gun next to him.

After arriving on the scene, officers quickly removed the gun before waking up Cooper. The Dorchester man was taken into custody following a brief struggle.

Police say Cooper couldn't produce a license to carry a weapon.

It's unclear if Cooper has an attorney who could comment.
