UNDATED (AP) — Russia's Defense Ministry says its warplanes have taken off from Iran for another day of airstrikes on the Islamic State group in Syria. Meanwhile, the speaker of Iran's parliament says Russia does not have a permanent military base within the Islamic Republic. Iran's allowing Russian warplanes to take off from its territory to bomb targets in Syria was an unprecedented move.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — It "moved so fast." That's what some residents are saying about a wildfire that grew to 28 square miles in Southern California. The blaze tore through canyons and flew over ridges in every direction with astonishing speed. San Bernardino County officials ordered some 82,000 people to evacuate.

GONZALES, La. (AP) — The smell of muddy water has been hanging heavy in the air as some southern Louisiana residents begin the cleanup following devastating floods. At least 40,000 homes have been damaged and 11 people were killed in some of the worst flooding in the state's history. No, more people have fled to shelters as other areas downstream have begun to flood.

MIAMI (AP) — A tropical depression moving over the central Atlantic is expected to strengthen to a tropical storm later today. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says at last check, the depression is centered about 775 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands and is moving northwest near 15 mph.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Bond has been denied for two South Carolina teenagers accused of fatally shooting a good Samaritan who helped them pull an SUV out of a ditch. News outlets are reporting that 19-year-old Michael Odell Anthony Dupree-Tyler and a 17-year-old male suspect, both of North Charleston, were in bond court last night on murder charges in the death of 45-year-old Chadwick Garrett.
