NEW YORK (AP) — Police in New York City are searching for the man who fatally shot the leader of a mosque and a friend as they left afternoon prayers yesterday. Surveillance video shows they were approached from behind by a man in a dark polo shirt and shorts who shot them and then fled with the gun still in his hand. Police haven't established a motive. They say both men were wearing traditional religious attire and one was carrying about $1,000 in cash but the money was not taken.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Anger over the fatal shooting of a man by police has erupted in violence on Milwaukee's predominantly black north side. Protesters clashed with police for several hours last night and set fire to at least four businesses in an outburst the mayor says was fed by social media. Police say officers shot an armed man yesterday after he fled a traffic stop.

BERLIN (AP) — Swiss police say the man who attacked passengers on a crowded train with a knife and burning liquid has died of his wound. One of the victims, a 34-year-old woman, also died, and three others are hospitalized with serious wounds. Police are searching for a motive for yesterday's attack, but say there's no indication the suspect, a 27-year-old Swiss man, had ties to extremist groups.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Emergency crews have worked through the night to rescue scores of south Louisiana residents from homes and stranded cars as deadly flooding continued to inundate large swaths of the region. A spokesman for the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness says there was a spike in flood rescues overnight in the eastern part of Baton Rouge. He said two nursing homes in that area were being evacuated.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Clear blue water is greeting synchronized swimmers and divers this morning in Rio, after officials worked through the night to replace murky green water. It took some doing, since the pool holds nearly 1 million gallons. Organizers have insisted there are no health risks posed by the discolored water, but it made it hard to see underwater — something that's especially important in synchronized swimming.
