BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana emergency crews who have already done at least 2000 rescues have more of the same to look forward to today as forecasters expect heavy rain to turn to the north. Warnings are out in portions of central and northern Louisiana lasting into the week. Three people are dead and one person is missing. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards warns water could still rise even as rain lessens. Several Mississippi counties have states of emergency.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. (AP) — in central and Northern California, the issue is fire, not water. Scores of homes in the Lower Lake area are threatened by a wildfire and evacuations have been ordered. In central California, a wildfire that broke out Saturday afternoon forced the evacuation of 135 homes.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Several hours of violence erupted on Milwaukee's north side after police shot and killed a man they say had a gun. Protesters set fire to at least four businesses in an outburst the mayor says was fed by social media. Mayor Tom Barrett and other city leaders appeared at a news conference to plead for calm. The state is investigating the shooting.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Long-time blue state Connecticut is seeing a little read as Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump makes his play. Trump is promising to pursue the Democratic stronghold. It is rare for a Republican to campaign in the Nutmeg State.

SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Yemeni military officials say pro-government troops, backed by forces from a Saudi-led military coalition, are launching an offensive to retake territory held by Islamic State and al-Qaida forces east of the port city of Aden. They say hundreds of troops are headed to Abyan province. The conflict pits the internationally-recognized government and the coalition against Shiite rebels known as Houthis.
