This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

A few months ago, I featured CleanFlicks, a company in Orem that offers edited versions of popular movies. I discussed how CleanFlicks has a process of viewing the movies and then clearing them of profanity, adult themes and gory violence. The movies become 'E-rated' or edited and the edits are seamless. Unless you¹ve already seen the film, you would never know a word or scene had been deleted.

Well, now there's an easy way to rent DVD versions of those E-rated movies without leaving your home. MyCleanFlicks, through a contract with CleanFlicks, rents the E-rated movies online. People from anywhere in the country can subscribe to the service by logging on to mycleanflicks.com. For a flat monthly fee, subscribers can choose the movie or movies they want to see and MyCleanFlicks will ship them 1st class mail. Subscribers keep the movies as long as they want--there are no due dates and no late fees.

When subscribers are done watching a movie, they simply slide it into a postage-paid return mailer provided by MyCleanFlicks and drop it into a mailbox. Once the movie is returned, MyCleanFlicks will send the subscriber's next request.

You may wonder how movies can be edited and then rented, especially amid the mountain of copyright laws. MyCleanFlicks operates as a co-op. When people subscribe to the service, they essentially become members and as such, they're entitled to co-own the edited movies.

Chad Fullmer, the company's CEO, told me that a service like this has been long awaited. He said he has had several interviews with media since launching the company earlier this month. He believes the reason it's been so newsworthy is because MyCleanFlicks is the first company to offer a viable business model that can realistically meet the pent up market demand for family-friendly rentals of big blockbuster movies. Even before launching the service, Chad had heard from interested clients from as far away as Japan.
