UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Chris Sienko, the general manager of the Connecticut Sun, has announced he is stepping down after 14 years with the team.
Sienko, who also holds the titles of vice president, chief operating officer and alternate governor of the organization, says he will leave those positions at the end of September.
Sienko was named GM of the Sun shortly after the Mohegan Tribe purchased the Orlando Miracle and relocated the team to Connecticut in 2003. During his tenure, the Sun became the league's first profitable team and reached the WNBA Finals twice.
Connecticut is currently 8-16 and in last place in the Eastern Conference. The team has finished at the bottom of the conference the past three seasons and hasn't made the playoffs since losing in the conference finals in 2012.
No replacement has been named.
