TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — The American Veterinary Medical Association has rejected the University of Arizona's proposal for a veterinary school, setting plans for the project back by at least a year.

The Arizona Daily Star reports (http://bit.ly/2bk02lT ) that the accreditors found that UA's proposal had substantial flaws, showing that it isn't ready to take the first step toward accreditation.

UA officials are appealing the accreditor's finding.

If the rejection is made official it could delay the school by a year, as UA would have to wait 12 months before restarting accreditation efforts.

The proposed veterinary school in Oro Valley recently received $8 million from state taxpayers to help install classrooms, laboratory space and veterinary operating suites.
