This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
When you think of the Old West, you often think of gun-slinging cowboys like Wyatt Earp or Butch Cassidy, and the names Smith & Wesson or Winchester often come to mind. Gun making is a business with a long and diverse history, and one Utah company has been right in the middle of it.
Browning Inc. is an Ogden company that has received international acclaim and praise for its guns and outdoor accessories. Although not officially incorporated until 1927, the Browning organization has been around since as
early as 1880, when John Moses Browning and his brothers established their gun shop in the Ogden, Utah Territory.
John Browning has been called the Ògreatest firearms inventor the world has ever known.Ó After being granted his first patent in 1879, Browning went on to develop an amazing 128 gun patents. Nearly 50 million sport and military weapons were manufactured from his patents during the 47 years he was a gun inventor. Among his most famous guns are the 45-calibre pistol, the 1895 machine guns used in World War II, and the Browning Auto-5 shotgun, which was produced from 1902 until 1998.
Although headquartered in Utah, Browning Inc. has a commanding presence in the international business world. Through the years, Browning has expanded its operations around the globe. The company operates in Belgium and Canada, and sells its products to groups around the world.
Browning Inc. is located in Morgan and firearms arenÕt all they sell these days. In 1968, Browning introduced their popular line of hunting clothing. Browning is also involved with the sale of knives, lights, gun cases, accessories, archery equipment and footwear. BrowningÕs durable security and fire safes are some of the best safes in the market today.
