WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — Donald Trump's campaign is blaming what it calls the "dishonest media" for misinterpreting his comments about Hillary Clinton and the Second Amendment. Trump ignited a political firestorm by declaring gun rights supporters might find a way to stop Clinton if she wins and then names anti-gun Supreme Court justices. Democrats pounced, accusing him of openly encouraging violence against his opponent. Trump's campaign quickly denied that.
BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (AP) — Police in Bloomfield, New Jersey, say a man was assaulted with a crowbar in the parking lot of a restaurant for wearing a Donald Trump T-shirt. Peter Yankowski says a motorist questioned him about his "Trump for President" shirt and they exchanged insults. He says a scuffle occurred soon after. Police say Yankowski was struck with a crowbar several times and was treated at the scene. They say the motorist fled before officers arrived.
DALLAS (AP) — Delta Air Lines passengers endured hundreds more canceled and delayed flights as the carrier slogged through day two of its recovery from a computer system meltdown. By late afternoon, the airline said it had canceled 680 flights as it moved planes and crews to "reset" its operation. Another 1,900 Delta flights were delayed, according to tracking service FlightStats Inc.
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — At the Rio Olympics, the U.S. women's gymnastics team has proved once again that it's good as gold. The Americans' second straight Olympic triumph was never in doubt, their score of 184.897 more than eight points clear of the field. Russia took the silver medal and China earned bronze.
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Los Angeles leaders visiting Rio have pitched their bid for the 2024 Olympics. L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti called it a "virtually risk-free" project that would require little construction and could produce a financial surplus. Los Angeles is seeking to host the Olympics for a third time and bring the Summer Games back to the United States for the first time since Atlanta hosted the event in 1996.
