This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

The Utah legislature has lightened some restrictions on automotive window tinting. While an automobile's front side windows must allow 43 percent of light to pass through, the rear window and rear side windows can now be as dark as you'd like. So, that's good news for a lot of folks who like the benefits of tinted windowsÑbenefits like protection from heat and ultraviolet rays, and aesthetically speaking, an overall enhanced appearance.

It's also good news for Gary and Vicki Doesburg. They own and operate A Hint of Tint in Clearfield, and for 13 years, they've specialized in applying tint film to the windows of automobiles, homes and businesses.

Gary and Vicki got their start back in 1989. At the time, few people knew auto tinting was available. But a friend of Gary's suggested it as a potentially profitable kind of business. So, Gary looked into it. Buying film and applying it to windows seemed easy enough. But Gary soon realized upon his first attempt at tinting the windows of his own car, that the job required a lot of skill.

With a substantial portion of the couple's savings, Gary enrolled in a week-long course offered by a film manufacturer. He quickly learned the skills and within a week of having finished the course, landed a job that more than replenished the money he withdrew from savings. With that, A Hint of Tint was in business. Since then, sales have doubled every year, and the couple manages hundreds of installations annually with Gary applying the film and Vicki handling the accounting.

Clients have traveled from as far as Washington state, and this fall, Gary will install safety and security film on the windows of Federal Plaza 26 at Ground Zero in New York.

Well, with the reduced tinting restrictions on automobiles, I expect Gary and Vicki Doesburg will see an increase in business. People who prefer a darker tint will likely want their windows redone. And for those who have never had their windows done, well, there's no better time...and no better place than A Hint of Tint in Clearfield.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
