GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina man who was upset after learning of a relative's death was shot and wounded by officers after he pointed a gun at them.
Greensboro police spokeswoman Susan Danielsen said officers responded to an apartment early Monday after someone called and said 27-year-old Dominique Raphael Poe had put a gun to the caller's head.
Danielsen said Poe confronted the three white police officers who responded. Poe is black and was in stable condition after being shot in the shoulder and hip.
Danielsen said officers worked about 10 minutes to convince Poe to drop the gun when he pointed at them and they fired.
No one else was hurt.
The officers have been suspended while the department's professional standards division investigates. The officers' names have not been released.
