This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
A visit to the dentist is one of those things many of us dread. But it doesn't have to be. Dr. Scott Kiser at Holladay Dental says it can be as comfortable as a good night's sleep.
That's because Dr. Kiser offers Sedation Dentistry. It's a procedure that allows patients to basically snooze through a dental appointment.
I visited with Dr. Kiser recently, and he explained how it works. He said that patients are given a small pill to take an hour prior to their appointments. Patients can choose the kind of medication they take. Most prefer Triazolam, which has been used for many years.
With help from a companion, patients arrive at the office. They are then escorted into the comfort room where they are covered with a thick, warm blanket and placed on a monitor to watch their vital signs. Once a patient is resting comfortably, Dr. Kiser and his clinical team can begin their work.
Dr. Kiser told me that patients can snooze for up to five or six hours after taking the pill, depending on the required treatment. Patients typically have little or no memory of the experience and usually don't remember any sounds or smells. And though they are deeply relaxed, they still remain responsive.
Dr. Kiser said that most patients who are afraid or have trouble getting numb prefer sedation dentistry. The procedure is also excellent for people who hate needles and shots or people with very sensitive teeth or those in need of complex dental treatments that often require six to eight appointments. With sedation dentistry, they can be done in as little as one.
Dr. Kiser has trained with some of the world's most prominent sedation dental specialists, and he's a member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation. He is also rapidly becoming known as the Salt Lake City area's leading dentist for people who want to snooze through their dental treatment.
So rest assure a visit with Dr. Scott Kiser at Holladay Dental will certainly be painless.
