SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego Padres pitcher Paul Clemens certainly was a Player. At least, that's what it said on his jersey.
The Padres right-hander normally wears No. 47 with his name on the back. But during Saturday night's home game against Philadelphia, he briefly had a uniform with No. 91 — and above the numeral it read "Player" instead of "Clemens."
The Padres said Clemens started out with the proper fit, but was asked to change it when a foreign substance was discovered on his uniform. He switched to the odd jersey, then had the right one by the time he bunted into a double play in the fourth inning.
