AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Chaos erupted early this morning in a crowded entertainment district of downtown Austin, Texas when someone opened fire in a crowd. Austin Police Chief of Staff Brian Manley says one woman was killed and three women were hospitalized. Another person was wounded but declined treatment. He said officials are trying to determine who the suspects are, didn't rule out that a suspect might be one of the injured.
LOCKHART, Texas (AP) — Authorities say there do not appear to be any survivors after a hot air balloon carrying at least 16 people caught fire and crashed in Central Texas. Federal investigators will be on the scene today. The balloon went down in a pasture near Lockhart, not far from Austin. A row of massive high-capacity electrical transmission lines cuts through the farmland.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton says of Donald Trump, "Somebody who attacks everybody has something missing." She was among those taking aim at the Republican candidate for criticizing the bereaved mother of a Muslim U.S. Army captain for not speaking during her husband's address to the Democratic National Convention. Trump came under fire from Republicans as well.
BIG SUR, Calif. (AP) — More than 5,000 firefighters are battling a massive week-old wildfire in California. Fire officials say the blaze burning near Big Sur has destroyed 57 homes and is threatening 2,000 more. Officials at the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection say the blaze, a few miles north of Big Sur, has grown to 52 square miles.
BRZEGI, Poland (AP) — Pope Francis has announced that the next World Youth Day will take place in Panama in 2019. Francis made the announcement Sunday as he wrapped up this year's global gathering of young Catholic faithful in Krakow, Poland. Earlier today, he encouraged hundreds of thousands of young people gathered in Krakow to "believe in a new humanity" which refuses to use borders as barriers and rejects hatred.
