Anyone who knows Sheri Griffith of Moab, knows she loves the outdoors. But she doesn't just love being in nature. She has a real appreciation for it. And she makes it her business to share that appreciation with everyone she can.
Sheri owns and operates Sheri Griffith Expeditions, a successful outdoor adventure company that takes guests on tours of the nearby Colorado River and national parks. ItÕs been her passion for some 30 years.
Sheri's love for nature began long before she started her company. She grew up just outside of Denver, Colo. Her father was an avid outdoorsman, and she learned at a young age how to fly fish. She also came from a ranching background.
While attending college to be a veterinarian, Sheri teamed with her two brothers to operate a small river rafting company. The experience opened her eyes and eventually led her to Moab where she sought a wider range of multi-day excursions. While in Moab, Sheri discovered how comfortable she was in natureÑthat it was wonderful to relax and take in the beauty. She also noticed how some tourists, particularly those who had not spent much time outdoors, seemed uncomfortable. It helped Sheri realize that she could provide her guests with more than an entertaining trip; she could show them how to enjoy the outdoors.
And that's what she did. Sheri canceled her plans to be a vet and turned to what would become for her a more lucrative career. Now, after running almost two decades of tours, Sheri Griffith Expeditions has grown to a full-scale operation.
Recently, Sheri's company teamed with the world-renowned adventure travel company Abercrombie & Kent. For 40 years, Abercrombie & Kent has guided luxurious tours to exotic places around the globe. Now, with Sheri and her company of expert river guides, Abercrombie & Kent has added Moab to its list of worldwide destinations. Through the association, travelers from around the world can experience Moab and the adventure it offers. For Sheri Griffith, it means an even greater chance to share her appreciation for nature and show more people how to really enjoy the outdoors.
