This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Burton Lumber and Hardware has been serving Utahns for over 90 years. There aren't many local companies that can boast of that longevity. Dan, Jeff and Robert Jr., are the third generation of Burtons to own and manage the company.

Just about every Utahn is close to a Burton Lumber and Hardware facility. They now operate eight locations from Logan to St. George and have been operating out of their Salt Lake City location at 2220 South State since 1911. I'll bet that when Burton opened at this location 90 years ago, it was a site considered to be on the south outskirts of Salt Lake.

Burton sells lumber, manufactured building components and building materials to contractors. They also have a fully functional truss division where they design, engineer, manufacture and deliver any truss/floor package. They also produce quality framed wall panels through their prefabricated wall panel division.

It was interesting to see them make a wide variety of doors. They have the capability to produce both interior and exterior doors in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and styles.

Contractors and builders can really rely on a wide variety of Burton products and services to help them be more efficient and professional. Burton can offer a turnkey finish package. Through their Commercial Finish Department, they have the ability to offer an installed package on many products. They have a large and diverse delivery capability. Their equipment vehicles range from one ton flatbed pickup trucks to 18 wheel tractor-trailers. All trucks are equipped with Global Positioning Satellite service and two-way Nextel radios so that communications is always available between the drivers, the company and the customer.

Yes, the original Burton family members who started the company way back in the early part of the century would be very proud and perhaps even a little surprised to see how the company has grown and how sophisticated the operation is today.

For Zions Bank, I’m Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
