It was in October last year that beauticians Susan Foulger and Chelle Zisumbo decided it was time for a change. Much like many of their patrons who desired a new look, they wanted to do something new in the salon business—something contemporary and somewhat sophisticated. They decided to open Shabby 2 Sheek Salon Techniques, a salon that would provide the very best in hair styling and nail care treatments in an atmosphere unlike all the rest.
Both had more than 15 years of experience. Susan graduated from Weber State University Cosmetology. Chelle graduated from Fran Brown’s College of Beauty in Layton. And they ended up working together at a local beauty salon in Roy. Then, Susan decided to open her own salon. She called it Stylistics Hair and Nails and Chelle eventually joined her. The two continued working together, and the business grew along with their list of clients.
During the next 10 years, Susan sold her share of the business and moved out of state. But she returned in 1995. Chelle continued working at the salon, but later decided she wanted to work from home.
Then last fall, Chelle called Susan about opening their own shop. At the time, Stylistics was up for sale. So the two women convinced the owner to sell them the business. She did and Shabby 2 Sheek Salon Techniques was born.
With help from their husbands and other family members, Chelle and Susan converted the salon into a dazzling design of feng shui (fung shway). It now features colorful walls, each one painted in a solid black, gold, white and red. The area where manicures are done is bright yellow with white wood trim, and the booths are done in such colors as green and denim blue. The floor, which had originally been installed 14 years ago, was redone to expose the concrete. Now, it features the handprints of Susan and Chelle’s children and colorful designs that harmonize with other designs on the walls. The effect is a calming feeling that Susan says leaves clients in awe. And already the unique design and colorful transformation has attracted new clients and increased business.
Susan and Chelle have planned a grand opening event at Shabby 2 Sheek, which is located at 4484 S. 1900 W. in Roy. They invite the public to join them in celebrating their new salon on Saturday, April 6.
