BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — There's one more law enforcement officer funeral today in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. City police officer Montrell Jackson, is one of three officers slain by a gunman who authorities said targeted law enforcement in an ambush near a busy highway. Former Marine, Gavin Long's attack came after the shooting death of a black man, Alton Sterling, by white police officers. Long was killed.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — With his supporters still simmering over perceived favoritism to Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders meet with them privately today ahead of the start of the Democratic national Convention. Sanders has a chance to encourage his supporters to embrace party unity. The Vermont Senator has struck a positive message recently, expressing his support for Clinton. Sanders will address the full convention tonight.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Unexpected winds feeding the beast sent a Southern California wildfire surging back to life, sending thousands fleeing the flames which have destroyed 18 homes. About 300 miles up the coast, another wildfire has destroyed six homes. One person has been found dead in the fire zone.
ANSBACH, Germany (AP) — There's been an arrest connected to Friday's deadly mall shooting in Munich, Germany. Police say the A 16-year-old Afghan taken into custody was a friend of the 18-year-old German-Iranian attacker who killed nine people and himself. They say the younger man may have known more details than he let on during questioning. Officials say the man who blew himself up near a music festival in the Bavarian town of Ansbach, wounding 12 others, was a Syrian who was denied asylum.
PARIS (AP) — France's prime minister is choosing not to expand, so far, on his statement that the security culture in his country needs to change. Manuel Valls made the comment today amid an escalating scandal over the government's handling of police deployment in Nice on the night of the deadly Bastille Day truck attack.
