MUNICH (AP) — Police in Germany say the 18-year-old German-Iranian gunman who killed nine people at a crowded mall and fast-food restaurant in Munich was not previously known to law enforcement and there is no evidence so far of any links to terrorist organizations. The investigation is ongoing. The man apparently killed himself.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Delegates heading to the Democratic National Convention which starts Monday in Philadelphia are giving passing grades to presumptive presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's choice of a running mate. Clinton and Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine will appear together for the first time during a Florida campaign stop today.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A court challenge looms after California Gov. Jerry Brown overturned a parole board recommendation to release Leslie Van Houten, the youngest member of the Charles Manson "family" to take part in a series of gruesome California murders in 1969. Van Houten's lawyer says he'll challenge the governor's decision in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
BAGHDAD (AP) — The Iraqi military is going medieval on Fallujah. Troops are digging a trench around Fallujah as a tactic to keep control of the city after recapturing it from the Islamic State group last month. The trench will have a single opening for residents to move in and out of the city, which is virtually empty since the offensive that defeated the IS militants. More modern security measures also will be used.
BEIJING (AP) — Parts of China continue to be deluged by torrential rains that have triggered deadly flooding. At least 25 more people are reported dead in the hardest hit city of Xingtai today. That's expected to push the overall death from the current 78 as of late yesterday. Scores of people are missing.
