One of my favorite pastimes is dining out. But with the Winter Games coming and attracting enormous crowds, I wondered how difficult it would be to enjoy a good meal.
Not difficult at all, say the folks at Gastronomy, the Salt Lake-based company that owns nine unique, upscale restaurants. Though the restaurants downtown are busy, Gastronomy has done a number of things to ensure we locals can still enjoy the gourmet dining, charming atmosphere and excellent service weíve come to expect at any of its eateries.
For one thing, Gastronomy has guaranteed that all of its restaurants are open. None has been sold out to provide exclusive dining for any one particular group. Instead, there is now more time to enjoy dining because Gastronomy has extended the hours in all of its restaurants during the Winter Games. Baci and The New Yorker will be open Sundays. Market Street Grill will remain open 24 hours in an effort to serve the late-night crowd. And there arenít any surprises. None of the restaurants has changed its menu or its pricing.
As an added feature, Gastronomy has installed TVs in some of the restaurants so patrons can watch the Games while they eat.
I was told we locals can call ahead to plan our dining and each of the restaurants will do everything possible to accommodate us.
Planning for the Games has been a top priority at Gastronomy. The company was involved in the bid process for more than 10 years, preparing and providing cuisine in Birmingham, England; Lillehammer, Norway; Nagano, Japan; and Budapest, Hungary.
Now, the company, including all of its employees, is thrilled to welcome people from around the world. I was told that dining in any of the restaurants, particularly those downtown, makes for a unique experience where groups of people can be heard speaking several different languages.
For locals who prefer to avoid the crowds, Gastronomy recommends its Market Street Grill Cottonwood located in the Cottonwood Corporate Center. But in any case, Gastronomy has ensured that dining out during the Games is something we all will enjoy.
