This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
Yesterday, I mentioned that despite the Olympic events planned at Park City Mountain Resort, there would still be plenty of skiing. Well, the same is true for Deer Valley.
As host to the slalom, aerial and mogul events, the resort will certainly draw spectators. But Deer Valley has plenty of terrain open to skiers who just want to enjoy the snow.
In fact, statistics from other Olympic Games show that visitation to resort areas actually drops during an Olympic year. So, what better time to enjoy the resort than when you can have almost the entire place to yourself?
Yes, it is business as usual at Deer Valleyóthat is great skiing, fine dining and an excellent ski schoolóeven during the Winter Games. Deer Valley's four mountains offer an abundant amount of terrain for every level of skier. Beginners are able to ski each of the four mountains while intermediate skiers can cruise to their heart's delight on Deer Valley's many famed, groomed runs. Experts will enjoy the resortís uncrowded black diamond runs. Only about 3 percent of the resortís overall terrain has been affected by the Games. All but nine of Deer Valleyís 88 runs are open to the public. The mid-mountain Silver Lake and the new Empire Canyon lodges are open, and unencumbered by Games-time preparations.
Reaching the resort is not a problem. Guests can park in the US 40 park-and-ride lot where shuttles will take them directly to the resort to begin their day.
Deer Valleyís Ski School is operating in full swing, and the Childrenís Center, a state-licensed facility, remains open throughout the Games.
The fine dining continues as well. Silver Lake Lodgeís McHenryís and Mariposa restaurants are serving dinner nightly. Silver Lake Lodge is serving breakfast, and both the Silver Lake and Empire Canyon lodges are serving lunch. Only the Seafood Buffet is closed until March 1.
Deer Valley has been pleasing guests with great snow, great food and great service for 21 years. Even after the Winter Games have gone, the resort will continue providing unbeatable winter vacations in a gold medal atmosphere every year.
