LAREDO, Texas (AP) — A preliminary report on a South Texas bus crash that killed nine people in May says an initial inspection of the bus found no mechanical defects and the driver's preliminary toxicology tests found no evidence of drugs or alcohol.
The National Transportation Safety Board's preliminary report was released Monday. Agency spokesman Keith Holloway says the report doesn't list a cause of the accident or reach any conclusions. He says the cause and conclusions are expected in the final report.
The bus had departed from Brownsville on May 14 and was headed to a casino in Eagle Pass.
The preliminary report says the bus rolled onto its side near Laredo after the 29-year-old driver lost control while negotiating a curve. The road was wet due to a light rain.
