This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
Did you know that here in Utah much of the policy information obtained by media comes from generally one source? Yes, it’s Utah Foundation, a nonprofit, non-advocacy research organization that for nearly 60 years has encouraged informed public policy making.
Utah Foundation was organized in 1945 by Utah business and community leaders who recognized that sound public policy decisions depend upon the availability of facts and reliable information.
What’s interesting is that Utah Foundation is the only organization of its kind in Utah and one of the few in the country whose whole mission is to enlighten, educate and stimulate public discussion on state and local public issues. These issues include a wide range of topics, like taxes, government spending, education, health care, poverty, water policy, and much more.
The Foundation does no crusading or lobbying. It does not engage in propaganda, and it neither supports nor opposes any specific legislation or agenda. Through the years, public officials, the press, business and trade organizations, civic groups and the general public have all turned to Utah Foundation for factual and accurate information.
As an educational nonprofit organization, Utah Foundation receives support in the form of contributions from individuals and businesses. And all of its activities are supervised by a 35-member, volunteer Board of Trustees from Utah’s business and academic community, including some of the state’s most prominent leaders.
Well, with that kind of leadership and support, Utah Foundation has excelled with its research. In fact, it recently won a national award for Most Effective Citizen Education for its book Financing Government in Utah: An Historical Perspective. The Governmental Research Association presented the award, and the chairman of the award committee said the contest judges were tremendously impressed with its content and quality.
No wonder Utah Foundation has been such a valuable source. You can find out more about Utah Foundation on the web at: www.utahfoundation.org.
