THIS IS LARRY MANKIN FROM THE SALT LAKE CHAMBER WITH YOUR METRO BUSINESS REPORT.

Several Salt Lake businesses report personnel changes. Jason Hawkins and Richard Vazquez have joined the law firm of Snow, Christensen & Martineau. Tony Wolff was promoted to Tax Manager at Wisan, Smith, Racker & Prescott.

Ski Utah recently presented Deseret News Outdoor Editor Ray Grass the Excellence in Ski Journalism award.

The Orton Group has created a 116 square-foot banner for Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center—one of the Cultural Olympiad sites.

According to the Workers Compensation Fund, 76 percent of Utah employers have a written drug and alcohol policy, but 77 percent of companies with 10 or fewer employees do NOT have a written policy.

Here’s an Olympic business fact: According to Lee Benson’s Inside Guide to the Games, the term Olympiad is only used to describe the four-year period between the summer Olympics. The Olympic Winter Games are not part of the Olympiad and so are numbered separately. Salt Lake is the 19th Olympic Winter Games.

These are serious times. Many businesses are now facing the challenges caused by the economic slowdown and the terrorist attacks. The Chamber’s first Meeting the Challenge Seminar is this Friday, November 2nd – from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. at the Chamber. Mark Kanold, Utah Department of Workforce Services Regional Economist, will speak on “The Current Economic Outlook—What Can We Expect.” Call 328-5043 to register or see us on the web at saltlakechamber.org.
