DALLAS (AP) — President Barack Obama is on his way back to the United States after cutting short his European visit. He'll travel to Dallas on Tuesday and deliver remarks at an interfaith memorial service for the five officers who were killed when a gunman opened fire on a protest march in Dallas. The White House says Obama is making the trip at the invitation of Dallas' mayor. Thursday's attack occurred shortly after Obama had arrived for a NATO summit.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A Black Lives Matter activist is free on bond after being charged with obstructing a highway in connection with a protest in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. DeRay Mckesson was released today. Mckesson was among about 130 people taken into custody over the past two days after protests over the fatal shooting of an African-American man by two white police officers in Baton Rouge on Tuesday.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Authorities might change their tactics at protests after the deaths of five officers at a Dallas demonstration over the recent police killings of black men. Craig Lally, president of the union representing Los Angeles police officers, says he suspects changes will be made at departments across the country when it comes to staffing protests and similar events. But Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings says he doubts his city's protocol will significantly change.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Two people are dead after a car plunged into the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. The car was found in the water near the Roosevelt Bridge early today. There were two bodies inside. The U.S. Park Police says one passenger was able to swim ashore and alert authorities. It's not clear why the car went into the water last night.

MIAMI (AP) — The Pentagon says a Yemeni prisoner at Guantanamo Bay has been released after more than 14 years in custody and sent to Italy. The release of the prisoner (Fayiz Ahmad Yahia Suleiman) reduces the number of men held at the U.S. base in Cuba to 78. He is one of about two dozen low-level Guantanamo prisoners expected to be released in the coming weeks. The U.S. transferred two Guantanamo detainees to Italy in November 2009.
