This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
I’ve been amazed at how much things change and evolve over time. Take for instance the trampoline. Invented by two Iowa friends around 1935, it was a simple piece of canvas stretched over a frame. Today, it’s used by gymnasts, astronauts and kids—both young and old. And who would have ever thought that 66 years ago, the trampoline would become a sanctioned, Olympic sport?
Behind this spectacular evolvement is a small, Smithfield, Utah company, Rebound Unlimited, Inc. and Angie Younker (Yonker). Angie’s been at Rebound Unlimited for five years now. She recently shared with me how the company has developed from a simple idea to a one-of-a-kind amusement system.
Rebound Unlimited markets a product known simply as the Trampoline Thing. It’s a unique contraption that has a trampoline with two poles on two sides. Suspended by a bungee cord between these two poles and over the trampoline, a jumper can jump as high as twenty-four feet, doing many flips and spins without fear of falling or injury. But you may say to yourself that it’s only for young, thrill seekers. Angie is quick to point out, though, that they’ve had an 87-year-old man and a small toddler try the Trampoline Thing because there are only weight restrictions, not height or age.
Many Trampoline Things can be found at carnivals, fairs, shopping malls and at parties. Angie said, the 2002 Winter Games has used them to aid in their recruitment days at local colleges and universities. Angie is proud her company can be a part in building spirit and support for the games.
The uniqueness of this product is the fact that it is one of a kind. Rebound Unlimited holds the patents for the Trampoline Thing and is the sole distributor for the world. From the design to the manufacturing and finally the marketing and sales, Angie said her small office of six employees handles it all. But the most amazing thing is that Rebound Unlimited’s Trampoline Things can be found at the Sea World and Parks in Orlando Florida and San Diego, and Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida. It has also traveled world wide to entertain thousands and thousands of people.
