RENO, Nev. (AP) — A downtown Reno strip club that usually shows scantily clad dancers on its electronic sign is now broadcasting political messages against the Reno City Council.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports (http://on.rgj.com/29npoxg ) the operators of the Wild Orchid club displayed messages in protest of a proposed ordinance that would tamp down on adult businesses.

City officials say they want to create redevelopment districts, but current strip clubs in the area are hindering those efforts. The proposed ordinance would have strip clubs in some parts of the city move to different areas or stop serving alcohol.

If the clubs stopped serving, they would be able to have fully nude performers.

Messages on the sign include ones saying "stop the City Council from changing Reno for the worse" and "empty buildings help no one."
