This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Inspired by his son trying to hit a tin cup from a golf cart in the parking lot of his brake shop, Stan Mangum dreamed of creating an electrical machine to play hockey. Requiring too much equipment for playing hockey, the machine was later adapted to play the game or sport we know now as WhirlyBall, developed by Stan and Kim Mangum. Flo-Tron Enterprises was then started in 1979 in order to develop and license this new invention.

As the world’s only totally mechanized team sport, Whirlyball is a combination of basketball, hockey and jai-lai played atop electrically powered machine’s called WhirlyBug’s. The WhirlyBug, which resembles a bumper car, is actually quite unique in and of itself. The power and steering are different from the car, in fact the machine is so unique that (12) of the machines were sold to Walt Disney for use in the Electric Light Parade in Disneyland.

The appeal of the game is universal. It cuts down most of the common barriers in sports today. Old and young, male and female, athletic and not so athletic all play on an equal basis. People of all ages, including children, business professionals and spouses, enjoy this new phenomenon together. And, the success of WhirlyBall is far reaching. Today, WhirlyBall is played in 37 courts across the nation, and into Canada and touches the lives of thousands of people daily. There is absolute magic that happens when you put someone in control of a piece of machinery. Couple that with the skill of a sport, and the combination is a winner!

Besides Whirlyball, Flo-Tron is constantly pressing forward with new inventions. An electronic demolition derby game is being designed as I speak.

Flo-Tron has been a family-owned business since its origination. From grandfather to father to now grandson, the company continues to build.

So, if you are looking for a fun, exciting and liberating activity for you or the entire family, look into Flo-Tron’s WhirlyBall. The game is sure to be a hit!

For Zions Bank, I’m Fred Ball. I’m speaking on business.
