This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Think about the changes we have seen in our lifetimes in the grocery business. The little corner “mom and pop” stores have all but disappeared as the giant one-stop shopping complexes have taken over the business.

Dan Young, the owner and president of Benefit Planning Associates, Inc., knew that the one-stop shopping was a great concept and thought that it would also be appropriate for insurance coverage for grocery stores and supermarkets.

Benefit Planning Associates started in Salt Lake City in 1979. The company offers comprehensive business and personal insurance coverages. Dan Young, owner and president, became involved in the company in 1983. He and six other employees have seen steady growth and particularly in the area of the one-stop insurance coverage for grocery stores.

Dan and his people offer all kinds of insurance coverage. I was impressed and a little surprised as I looked over the long list of insurance products that are offered to individuals and companies. There were some items listed that I had never thought of when considering insurance coverage. The company offers computer and software coverage, pollution coverage, loss of income and business interruption policies and many other items that we would really hurt in case of loss.

Although offering all the regular insurance coverage you would expect, Benefit Planning Associates offers coverages for grocery stores and supermarkets that are optional items to the expected insurance policies. They will cover employee dishonesty, outside signs, food spoilage in freezers and refrigerators, Hepatitis "A" coverage, accounts receivables, and many other options that are so very important to those who deal in offering food items to consumers.

It is interesting to see how companies set themselves apart from the competition. There are many insurance agencies and companies in Utah. Dan Young and Benefit Planning associates have found a niche market that makes them unique and special.

For Zions Bank, I’m Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
