This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

SUVs are a hot item and have been since they first became popular in the early ‘90s. They’re large and rugged enough to take the whole family or a group of friends just about anywhere. And here in Utah, that’s pretty important considering some of the state’s enjoyable spots lie just beyond some of the most challenging roads.

Well, it was back in the early ‘90s that Shariff Hadley saw a big demand for SUVs, particularly the Land Rover line. His interest in the car business began while working at Dan Eastman in Bountiful. After attending the National Auto Dealers Academy in Virginia, he decided he wanted to own his own dealership of new cars. About the same time, BMW and Land Rover announced merger plans, and Shariff became interested. He liked the idea of combining Land Rover’s rugged ability with BMW’s sophisticated handling. The brand was already available from a dealer in Salt Lake. But Shariff was interested in Land Rover’s move to set up specialty centers across the country—centers that offered demonstration courses featuring hill descents and tilts at 38 degrees. And there were no centers of that kind in Utah.

So, Shariff applied, and within little time, was approved to build a dealership. As a Davis County native, Shariff chose Centerville to open shop, which he did in 1998. The spot was close to Ogden and Salt Lake. Location and demand for Land Rover’s unique vehicles quickly attracted clients. In fact, business was so good, that Shariff expanded and recently opened another Land Rover dealership in American Fork.

Shariff knows how to serve his clients well. His valet service program provides pickup and delivery of a vehicle in need of service wherever the owner may be—from Jackson Hole to St. George. And every quarter, Shariff’s dealerships treat new Land Rover owners to a 3-day, off-road event in Moab.

With exceptional vehicles, outstanding service and shopping experiences that feel like outdoor adventures, it’s no wonder Shariff Hadley has found success with his dealerships.
