This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
A few years ago, I did a piece on the Heber Valley Railroad. I told about this very special recreational opportunity and how much pleasure I had on the 4- hour round trip I took in the vintage cars.
The Heber Valley Railroad Depot recently held its grand opening. This new facility makes the experience even more enjoyable and expeditious. The open-air observation cars are popular in winter or summer. The train operates in rain, snow or sunshine, and each season offers spectacular views and vistas.
The Heber Valley Railroad is available for charter or private car service. It has been used often for movies, commercials and industrial film work. I was told that the company will make all arrangements for birthdays, weddings, private or company parties, corporate meetings or special events where a unique setting is desired.
Taking a trip on the Great Western Railway #75, which was built by Baldwin in 1907, is really a trip to nostalgia land. I worked my way through college as a brakeman and I recall with fond memories being the head-end brakeman and riding in the cabin of the old coal burning, steam engines. It's exciting to sit comfortably on the Heber Valley Railroad cars and listen to the sounds of the engine and the wheels and watch the gorgeous scenery pass before you.
Food is available on all trains and there are special holiday events planned for the season. One that is very popular is the Christmas Train that runs during November and December. A reading of the famous Chris Van Allsburg's story, "The Polar Express" is professionally presented during the trip. This is a special way to celebrate the holidays, and it is not too early to begin planning your special Christmas treat. Lyle Gertsch, Zions Bank manager in Heber, told me that last year the train, making the Polar Express run twice each day, was always sold out.
Well, regardless of the season, a trip to the beautiful Heber Valley offers a great deal of recreational opportunities. The Heber Valley Railroad is one of the extra special treats.
