THIS IS LARRY MANKIN FROM THE SALT LAKE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WITH YOUR METRO BUSINESS REPORT.

Several Salt Lake businesses report personnel changes. Joining the Salt Lake office of Stoel Rives are three experienced lawyers: Kevin B. Laurence, Ronald Moffitt, and Scott Young. Salus Therapeutics appointed Dr. Cy Stein to its Board of Directors. George Mathis has joined Christopherson Travel Group. Beverly Schrab has joined the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. Pinnaclepost, formerly Eagle Edit, has acquired Tom Bottom as Marketing Director.

BP announced a tentative agreement to sell its Salt Lake City and Mandan, North Dakota refineries to Tesoro Petroleum Corporation.

Questar Gas has purchased Utah Gas Services Company which services Moab, Monticello, Vernal, and Maeser.

Here’s an Olympic business fact: The challenges facing Lillehammer and Nagano were similar to what Salt Lake faces as an Olympic Host City. Those Cities had no international identity and had to define themselves to the world. Sydney, on the other hand, had a global identity, but wanted to shed some of its “Crocodile Dundee” image. Salt Lake has the double challenge of both defining itself to the world and overcoming stereotypes.

One of the goals of the Chamber this year is to improve the vitality of the Central Business District. The Chamber recognizes a healthy central business district is essential for the economic development of the whole Salt Lake area. For more information on the Chamber’s plans call 364-3631 or see us on the web at saltlakechamber.org.
