WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Authorities have charged a Delaware elementary school teacher with dealing in child pornography.
Officials said Tuesday that an undercover investigation by the Child Predator Task Force into the online sharing of child pornography led to the arrest of 50-year-old William M. Herkins IV of Claymont.
Herkins, a teacher at Carrcroft Elementary School, is charged with 25 counts of dealing in child pornography. He was being held on $1.25 million secured bail.
A spokeswoman for the Brandywine School District declined to comment on Herkins' employment status but said in a prepared statement that the district will not employ anyone who puts a child in harm's way.
Authorities said the investigation is continuing and that additional charges may be filed.
It was not immediately clear whether Herkins is represented by an attorney.
