NEW YORK (AP) — By the Moon beat Wavell Avenue by 1 3/4 lengths Saturday in the $150,000 Bed o' Roses Handicap for fillies and mares at Belmont Park.
The 2-1 second choice, By the Moon took the inside route before darting through a wide opening at the top of the stretch for her fourth win in 11 starts.
Wavell Avenue, still looking for her first win since capturing the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint last October, rallied into contention with a four-wide move but was no match for the winner.
By the Moon, with Jose Ortiz up for trainer Michelle Nevin, ran seven furlongs in 1:21.98.
By the Moon paid $6.40, $3.40 and $2.60. Wavell Avenue returned $2.70 and $2.10 as the even-money favorite, and Bar of Gold paid $2.70 to show.
