This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
Saratoga Springs, the once popular resort along Utah Lake's northwest shore, is back-this time as the ultimate place to put a home.
Yes, it's a spot in Utah that has constantly attracted people because of its natural hot springs and lakeside location. In fact, Saratoga Springs dates back more than a hundred years ago to 1884 when John Beck, a German immigrant, named it Beck's Saratoga Springs. He got the name Saratoga from a famous spa in New York.
Over the years, the resort changed ownership and its look. New pools and buildings were added, and it became a popular place for dancing, rides, games and swimming. Tragedy struck in 1968 when a fire took the main building that housed the indoor pool, dressing rooms, laundry, ticket office, snack bar and gift redemption center. However, it didn't stop the resort from opening as scheduled three weeks later on Memorial Day. In the '70s, the resort added its Kamakazi water slide, which proved popular. But in the '80s, rumors of flooding from rising lake levels detracted visitors.
Then in the '90s, a developer saw potential in Saratoga as place to live. In 1997, Saratoga Springs became an official Utah city-a new kind of city-one that was master-planned with luxurious homes, condominiums and town homes. Every effort was made to preserve the area's natural surroundings. The area in which the lots are located features roads that wind around century-old trees. And of course, there are Saratoga's added touches from year's past, including a private pool, marina, historic pavilion and hot tubs fed by natural hot springs.
Residents get unobstructed views of the lake and the Wasatch Mountains. Buyers can choose from several options to make their home in Saratoga. They can choose a lot and bring their own architect and builder or choose from one of the many fine builders that have homes or condos available.
And for recreation, the community will feature a 200-acre golf course designed by Freddie Couples and Gene Bates. It is currently being developed and will open later this fall. Yes, with Saratoga Springs what was once a popular resort is now the perfect place to call home.
