This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
As I travel around the state to visit the companies who become subjects for speaking on business, I have a great time. The calls are always interesting and informative and sometimes the call is just plain FUN.
I have to classify my visit with brothers Greg and Doug Kennedy at GearHeads Outdoor Store in Moab as REALLY FUN. This is a great establishment to wander around and see all the neat gear for the outdoors and survival. There is a big line of clothing articles, cliff nutritional bars, cooking gear, sleeping bags, backpacks, tools, knives, night vision equipment and global positioning apparatus.
This place is a paradise for bikers, hikers, backpackers, rafters, climbers and anyone who loves to be outdoors.
Doug and Greg opened their store four years ago. I asked then about the name, and Greg said once they were out on a trip and had all kinds of gear strapped on their bodies. A lady looked at them and said, "Wow, you guys are really gear heads." Well, they kind of liked the name and it stuck.
The boys are also very inventive. They developed and now market a multi-function lighting system called the LazerBrite. It's made right in Moab, and it is a very versatile handheld system that is a flashlight, a glow tube, a micro-lantern and a system that can send a beam on a wide angle or a focused spot. It has many other features and is really a hot item in the store and also on the GearHeads Web site.
I told them I have never seen so many things for the outdoorsman, and I was given a little wood medallion that has their motto blazoned on one side. It says, "We search the planet for cool gear." Cool, it is!
For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
